NY Cab “in the wild”
One of my good friends who also happens to be one of the top producers of trailers and promos just texted me–he was riding in the back of a cab in New York City and was hearing my voice. It was for ABC and the upcoming NY Comedy Festival (seen on one of the ubiquitous TV screens in cabs). This might not be unusual in itself, as millions of New Yorkers hear me every day. But these reports from people hearing you “in the wild” remain a small thrill for VOs, at least for me. It reminds me of the thrill of connecting with someone far away via ham radio (yes I am that much of a nerd). So much of the work we do as narrators goes off and lives its one-cycle (or even one-day) lifespan without further information on its effectiveness, or impact on someone’s day, that it’s touching to receive these small check-ins from family members, friends, and–as was the case today–colleagues who think about the impact of the human voice as much as we do.
